Pep

As I mentioned a few days ago, we are headed up to Seattle today with Pep pictured to the left. Pep is a very hyper dog who has been returned four times for being too hyper. He is not suited to be someone's pet but his hyperactivity and ball focused behavior makes it very possible he can be trained as a working dog of one kind or another like search and rescue.

As some of you may know, my wife works full time in dog rescue for United Animal Friends, mostly things related to regular adoptions and she also does email communication, social media and is on the board. With a lot of phone calls and emails she got Pep accepted into a training program at the University of Washington--I don't know if accepted is most precise term but you get the idea.

Kind of a neat thing, all the stuff in the "travel bag" that Joellyn bought for Pep was covered by a Petsmart gift card from a Random Roger reader so a big thank you for that.

This was why I asked for input about coffee houses in Seattle. After we drop Pep off we are going to hang out for a couple of days. I'd still welcome any coffee house suggestions.

There are probably a thousand coffee houses in downtown Seattle but I don't have a specific one to recommend, sorry. Maybe ask a local (not a hotel employee, although sometimes you are steered right). But if you want a coffee recommendation go to New Orleans someday and try the coffee with chicory (Cafe du Monde, Morning Call, etc.). That is great stuff...

If you're coming to the UW campus, you could try Zoka's, which is nearby. It's an independent company, great coffee, and a hangout for people and their laptops.
(This is my 'hood, too). Their address is 2901 NE Blakely St.

Seattle's Best is fairly good. Hard to beat Starbucks IMHO.

If you have time, I think you would really enjoy the "underground tour". How Seattle was built etc etc.

There are a couple hundred coffee houses and restaurants on and around University Avenue ("The Ave") West of campus. Park a couple blocks away and walk because of the huge pedestrian traffic. There is a brew pub around 42nd or 43rd on the West side of the street.

'Pep' sounds apt, I hope he does well.

I've not had the opportunity to try Seattle's coffee places, alas, but I hear Café Nervosa is s'posed to attract an interesting crowd.

I like Eltana. Good coffee and wood fired baked bagels.

Haven't sampled are large array of coffee shops by any means -- I only make it up to Seattle once or twice a year at most myself -- but the best coffee places I have experienced are all listed here at http://www.ineedcoffee.com/07/seattle/ and, based on that, I'd bet the rest of the recommendations are first rate as well.

Enjoy.
