Sunday Morning Coffee

Felix Zulauf at the Barron's Roundtable: In the U.S., annual consumption of meat is 130 kilograms (286 pounds) per capita. In the European Union it is about 100 kilos. In China it is 55 kilos, and it was 39 kilos 10 years ago. In India it is at only seven kilos, so there is a long way to go. In 1980 Taiwan was at a development stage similar to China's today. Since then, Taiwanese meat consumption per capita has doubled from 43 kilos to more than 90 kilos. By 2030, China's meat consumption could be 85 to 90 kilos.

It takes about six kilos of grain to produce one kilo of beef. It also takes 4,000 gallons of water. If I had a good water play, I would discuss it here. On the supply side, available land is diminishing. We can't get water to some land.

Hectic weekend, normal blogging should resume tomorrow.

Indian meat consumption might not go up much since most Hindus don't eat meat especially beef

Roger, You might want to look at Duoyuan Global Water (DGW).

Purewater, the comment about the water stock was still Zulauf. I know about DGW or at least I thought I did. On a price basis it doesn't look like it has started to recover from the DYP scandal which I find surprising. Do you know anything about this part of the story?

Sorry Roger, I misread that...according to my Asian investment source, who investigated the company, the accounting scandal is much ado about nothing. Unless it turns out to be a total and complete fraud, I don't think it has a whole lot more downside given how cheap it is and the upside is enormous, IMO. Just my kind of stock. Go Steelers!!

So what? 90% of beef American's eat is produced by Soy, animal & fish by-products, and all types of other garbage with very little grain.
