I live in Michigan. Can you post a link to the interview?
Was it where she wants to turn Detroit Schools over to the it Mayor?
It was live on CNBC it was earlier this hour.
She was pleading her case, wasn't she?
Last night local TV had the NC governor (Pardue, Dem.) reflecting on our est. $2 billion shortfall & 1st or 2d largest percent increase in unemployment among the states, y/year and that she'd be in Washington on the 5th re: stimulus. I imagine there're alot of governors in Washington today.
There's alot of frustration for all variety of reasons. I thought the Wash.Post's Steve Pearlstein's piece (yesterday; link from Ritholz blog) reflects this.
Anna in NC
That was ridiculous. When asked if she'd rather have a bad bill now or a better thought out one in two months, she said that we wouldn't even have an economy in two months if nothing was done. She was like a rabid dog! Somebody give her her shots!
it really was wild.
Here ya go. Clickity
Wow, the wave of fear continues. Let's get more government involvement before Michigan sinks into Lake Superior. I'm glad I left that state long ago.
Yikes!!!
Didn't I hear her say she was
trying to entice the movie
industry to her state?
Maybe she was auditioning for
a role...;-)
I can't wait to see the Madoff
movie.
lol! I heard that and it made me think of the commercial where the guy was explaining to his wife how his retirement plan was to buy lottery tickets. So clueless, yet the emotion ... poor Michigan.
I live there, too, and believe me, it ain't pretty. In fairness, she inherited a lousy financial situation from Engler, but a lot of us were hoping she'd get co-opted to Washington. Guess they saw through her.
Maybesheshouldhavetalkedfaster!!!
Good grief. My blood pressure went up just watching her.
She was highly articulate as well as urgent and advocating strongly for the state that elected her so it is difficult to imagine what was upsetting other than the obvious fact she wasn't a conservative Republican; perhaps if she had used fewer nouns and questioned the patriotism of anyone who didn't give her what she wanted it would have gone over a bit better for y'all.
Roger- what da ya think of this article by Jim Wiandt??
http://www.indexuniverse.com/blog/5350-people-are-dumber-than-they-look.html?Itemid=3
that was quite a tirade by Jim. If you know this blog at all, then it won't shock you that I disagree with a lot of what he said there. Additionally there are four and half years worth of posts that refute big chunks of thesis. a lot of it comes through as being academic commentary from someone who has not actually managed other people's money.
trading in the context implied is not for everyone including me but some folks trade very successfully. buy and hold is certainly valid as well.
He seems to be implying though that investing cannot evolve which I find preposterous to whit; before 1958 equity dividend yields were higher than ten year treasury yields, then the ten year yielded more and now it appears to have swung the other way.
The very existence of ETFs, what a lot of their business model is based off of, is another example of evolution.
Well, they WON.......
And Michigan voted their representatives in. So much for the Wolverine's much overrated public school and university systems. They sure turn out doofus voters.
"we're putting all of our eggs in the basket of diversifying our economy"
Sheesh, and I thought Yogi was good.
