There is a little Eric Hoffer in every working man.
I was a doctor before I became a plumber because the pay was better. And my name ain't Joe. How dare they downgrade me.
Ron
plumbers suck - they're lazy fat bastards.
those asswipes made us (the air conditioning techs) dig their crap holes for overtime while they had a beer with joe six-pack.
no way in hell that joe the plumber makes $250k.
If you expand the term "philosopher" to mean merely someone who says something, then yes, I guess so.
I'm assuming your post wasn't sarcastic. Maybe it was.

Wow. All this anonymous snark. Whatever provoked that?
Good on you Fred: Eric Hoffer is one of my favorite 'real' philosophers.
(From the Mel Brooks movie "History of the World, part one.")
Unemployment Office Person: "Name and occupation?"
Comicus: "Comicus, Stand-up Philosopher."
Unemployment Office Person: "A what?"
Comicus: "A Stand-up Philosopher. I take the coalescence of daily life and produce anecdotes that have synonymous meaning with various people."
Unemployment Office Person: "Oh. A bullshit artist!"
Comicus: "Uh...Yeah."
Unemployment Office Person: "Well, did you bullshit today? Did you try to bullshit today? Try harder or we'll have to cut-off you payments. Next please!"
PS: Both candidates qualify as Stand-up Philosophers but we'll have to give McCain the edge this time around since he introduced "Joe the Plumber" as some kind of working class hero but it turns out Ol' Joe's an unlicensed handyman who owes a fair amount of money and already seems to be having better luck on the right-wing talk-show and novelty t-shirt circuit ( http://tinyurl.com/44h2tt ); McCain really must do a better job of vetting. You can not make this kind of stuff up.
PPS: Lining up the next 10% to go long -- jeez, this makes me nervous; I'm looking at another 18-24 months of economic bad news and the very real possibility of a complete reorganization of the global economic system and my model says it's time to start building longs. WTF!
you got the HOTW Part 1 reference, nice!
First I would like to appriciate you for the valuable information sharing with us. Thanks for making informative blog.
