Great photo! Thanks, Roger. Enjoy your site.
Your site is very educational except for your affixication with Hawaii, ect..
These posts keep wasting my time and eventually I'll stop checking your blog.
????
anon 1:22 - and posting comments like that doesn't waste your time? Get a life...
Roger - love your site, keep up the great work!
If you feel an affixication coming on, you should immediately open a window.
I find your offerings invariably interesting whether they are a simple photograph of a scene you admire, something that has to do with firefighting, or a comment on the best approach to dealing with an investment objective. What makes you different than all the other guys in this game is that you can stop to smell the roses and admire the birds. Don't let them phase you.

Roger, I enjoy your posts. I don't check this blog to hear about the CPI numbers and everybody and their brothers opinion on it. When I read this I thought of the song "Leaving in a Jetplane, don't know when I'm gonna be back again."
Personally, I like it when you're in Hawaii because you've got a post up when I check in in the morning!
But isn't it yesterday's post? hahah.
Trying to catch sporting events while in Hawaii drove me nuts.
"What makes you different than all the other guys in this game is that you can stop to smell the roses..."
correction: 'stop to smell the
orchids'
Keep up the great work Roger...
back home, covered in snow and dogs.
anon 1:22, you will be disappointed if you expect zero personal stuff. I have been in Hawaii for the last two weeks and as I have done with any trip I have ever taken I post some photos of where we go.
thank you to all the other friendlier comments.
SD--I am a huge sports fan and candidly i go mostly without for games that are on at night on the mainland, except when the Red Sox were in the WS on our last visit.
morning games start at 7 am which i do watch on the weekends. the NFL starting at 7am is kind of wild.
anon 11:45, well i guess you know the big island pretty well. we have a ton of orchids on our property.
Roger, what was it about the big island that led you to buying a home there rather than, say tourist favorite Maui, or my favorite, Kauai?
Terrific blog, thanks, I enjoy the Hawaii pix.
several reasons for the big island, mostly personal preferences but a financial one too.
no sense of smallness on the island compared to the others. more things to do (things that we like anyway). just as you said, fewer tourists. hilo is a lot like prescott (where we live most of the time) which is a good thing.
financially speaking i have very specific ideas about taking on less mortgage than you can handle which is where we are.
I like the big island also when I was there a couple of years ago I went to the botanical gardens and it was really neat.
