Watch Out!
Anyone else concerned about this "78.38 Below" number that CNBC has posted in relation to how far we are from the Dow's all time high?
If they do in fact act as cheerleaders you would think someone there would realize they have an uncanny knack for poor timing.

I think it's fantastic. It fits right in with my recent post about them.

CN.....who?
That's right George, CN who?
I have not watched that ghastly channel ever since they started with the whooshing sounds and annoying graphics.
Even before these cheap MTV like gimmicks, all I watched them for was entertainment. I think they insult even the meager intelligence.
Bloomberg is okay. These days, I basically only watch TV a few minutes before the open to get the headlines while I sip my tea. With the plethora of blogs disseminating valuable unbiased information daily, why bother?
George,
hearty chuckle
I can understand some readers may want me to not comment on the channel again but it is a never ending source of amusement.
It is the hip hop time at CNBC. To be fair, CNBC still has a lot to offer in both content and relevancy about the markets. I think what irks us old time professionals is the presentation format. We seem to be more conservative by nature and expect the channel to cater to us and not the rap generation.

Wonder if they'll have a 'Dow 12000' party?
That'd be the Mother of All Tells.
----OK, I'll bit the hook. What I really think about the channel is this: During the tech hay day, they provided the biggest pump and dump scheme ever concocted. Now, I am all for 24/7 news, but in this case people were influenced to do things they normally knew they should not. If is't on TV then it's true, r-i-g-h-t????? I witnessed little old blue haired ladies getting out of a well balanced portfolio ( like what Roger does) to put their life savings in the Janus 20. I saw them buy huge amounts of Emulex without any knowledge of who or what it was. They bought it because Maria said it was good.
Stop for a moment and imagine those years WITHOUT CNBC. No news about stocks whatever, except the nightly quote on the averages. Yeah...I know it would be boring...but a lot of well meaning people would not have gotten hurt. But because it was on TV-----it was TRUE.
g
good stuff George
My 2 cents worth. I cannot believe that anyone serious about investing is still watching the propaganda channel. Yes, they pumped & pumped in the late 90's and they are still doing it, rather blatantly, like this ethanol thing they got going (I am not watching CNBC but there is enough commnetary on CNBC that I get the picture). They talk about 15K BBQs, fast expensive boats, "trillion square feet homes", fast expensive cars, ultra-expensive vacations, overpaid sports heroes.... What have I left out? I know many very wealthy people but most of them do not live such lifestyles. To whom is CNBC pandering? The 0.0000001 % of the population? Very few facts, lots of silly commentary. The silliest of all the Mad & Money Losing show. I agree with another comment here as I also believe CNBC is insulting my intelligence. So Bloomberg it is in our house & web & blogs.
Regardless of the seemingly universal disdain for CNBC, it is intersting to note that Roger's initial post was quite prophetic.
Thanks Eric, I'd like to say I'm smart but I have seen that movie before
